Guest List

by Mary O'Bryan on January 6, 2011

We have all heard that the toughest part of a small town wedding is the guest list. So many variables to consider.

Multiply your invitations by two and subtract 33%. That should be the amount of people that show up that night.

I have been told that I need to do an analysis of the demographic groups coming to the wedding. Small town people over the age of 40 expect to have a table for the entire evening. Younger, city types like to mingle and share the high cocktail tables. There is a certain # of waiters per 50 guests. The dance floor dimensions are determined by your numbers also.

We have done several drafts of a guest list and have come to the conclusion that with 66 in the immediate family that the best option is a private, family only wedding ceremony followed by a larger, more inclusive reception. And we haven’t even begun to calculate food and drink.
